Next Steps for President Obama

Last night, just before the announcement that President Obama was projected to win the election, NBC was showing the states in which Romney was leading. I switched to PBS, and Gwen Ifill was listening to a Republican supporter’s spiel on why his man was winning. I switched the station again to TV ONE, and they were talking about why the President was going to win. I left it there, and walked away for a minute.

All of a sudden, screams of ecstasy came from the TV; I knew it was over! That 20 minutes of ecstasy that all of the President’s supporters felt right then — indescribable, right? The margin of difference was enough that the Republicans cannot logically question the results. And Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Duckworth both won. What an election! I screamed, too, and my dog looked at me like I was crazy… The Chi-Town dusties were playing loud at McCormick Place, you could tell exactly where they were.

Now, he and the family have gone to O’Hare Airport to fly back to D.C., and should be arriving shortly. After this extremely long election fight, the President didn’t come out of the house today. I don’t blame him! One of the local news reporters said earlier that he probably had breakfast in bed; why not? You don’t get a mandate from America often, the Pres had a right to sleep as long as he could. He did it TWICE.

But when he gets off of  Air Force One tonight, the weight of the country will be back on his shoulders and Congress, although slightly changed after the election, will be back at work next week. There’s a lot of work ahead. He has to complete what he started, which was disrupted by a guy offering a pledge of interference.  Not to mention the December deadline for the tax increases. It’s going to be rough.

However, if God gives you the position, He also provides a way for you to accomplish what needs to be done. This also applies to Presidents. Millions of us are ecstatic that he won, but we should also be sure to pray for our President, because the opposition has not changed their tune.  Joe Madison said it clearly last night, that the talk by Republicans of an olive branch was B.S., they want to lull the country into complacency, and then strike again. He’s probably right, but this time, the President has to use his mandated power to squash them, don’t give them any air when it comes to getting things done. He can do it.
